Individualized Tutoring
One-on-one tutoring that builds durable understanding, stronger study habits, and confidence, tailored to each student’s goals.
My Experience
I earned my PhD in Neuroscience from MIT, where I conducted research in a Nobel Prize–winning laboratory and completed formal training in college-level teaching. I have taught neuroscience and psychology at MIT, Harvard College, Northeastern University, and UMass Boston, and have worked with motivated middle and high school students through the MIT Educational Studies Program and the Museum of Science Youth Internship Program.
My research spans astrobiology, neurobiology, and cognitive science at institutions including MIT, Harvard Medical School, UCLA, and NASA, and my writing and public engagement have appeared in outlets including WIRED Magazine and MIT Technology Review.
My Approach
My tutoring is grounded in careful assessment, clear explanation, and deliberate pacing. I identify where understanding breaks down, then rebuild concepts step by step in a way that matches how the student thinks and learns. Drawing on my research in how the brain learns and remembers, I integrate practical strategies such as retrieval practice, spacing, and targeted review so students retain material and can apply it under exam conditions. The goal is durable understanding that supports confidence, independence, and long-term academic growth.
What to Expect
Sessions are one-on-one and structured around your current class materials, upcoming assessments, and longer-term goals. You can bring assignments, practice problems, lab reports, or lecture slides; we will build a plan that combines concept clarity with deliberate practice.
What I can Help With
I work with students in science and analytic subjects including biology, neuroscience, psychology, chemistry, physics, physiology, laboratory reports, and scientific writing. I support middle school, high school, early college, and graduate learners, with most work focused on long-term academic growth.
For college and graduate students who are not science majors but are required to complete science or quantitative coursework, my background in the humanities and visual arts offers an additional advantage. I frequently help students translate technical material into conceptual frameworks that align with how they already think and reason, reducing anxiety while improving comprehension and performance.
Getting Started
Share your goals, course context, and timeline using the request form below. I review each inquiry personally and follow up to discuss fit, availability, and next steps. Tutoring is typically structured as ongoing, semester-length work with clear goals and regular review.
Request Tutoring Form
I primarily work with students seeking ongoing support over a semester or longer. Tutoring is designed for building understanding and skills over time rather than last-minute assignment and exam help.
