Mental Mapping Portrait Selected for Communication Arts Annual

Winning portrait of Marissa Zampino for Communications Arts Photography Annual

A portrait from my project, Mental Mapping: The Art of Exploring Connections, has been selected for inclusion in the 66th Communication Arts Photography Annual, which will be published in the July/August 2025 issue.

The selected photograph is a portrait of Marissa Zampino, a nationally competitive artistic roller skater who represented the United States at the 2015 World Championships. Her experience navigating space through movement provided a meaningful entry point into the project’s broader themes—spatial memory, embodied experience, and creative perception.

Communication Arts has been a longstanding platform for work in photography, design, and visual culture. I'm grateful that this image, and the ideas it represents, resonated with the jury. Thanks to Marissa for being part of this process, and to everyone who has supported Mental Mapping as it continues to develop.
