The Shape of Remembering

How can we study the organization of memory through the stories people tell? The Shape of Remembering is a work in progress that moves from a model of the hippocampus, a brain structure involved in memory, to AI-assisted interpretation of autobiographical interviews. Memory functions inform prompts that identify and organize interview passages. Relationships within these passages form animated networks that transition into photographic portraits and participants' own words. Developed through my Mental Mapping project, the film connects biological models with computational and artistic representations of experience. It asks how these different ways of organizing a person's story shape our understanding of their life.
